Welcome to Gen Z for Social Justice!

A 17-year-old's vlog and views on social issues in the world.

July 22nd, 2024 - Rania Brahim

Hello, world! My name is Rania and I am a rising senior in high school. After almost 4 years of high school experience and taking part in the community by engaging in activism and social change, I have decided to create my own blog and website to truly discuss my thoughts on what's going on in the world and stand as an advocate for other teenagers just like me. Of course, my views may not stand for all, but I've wanted to have a platform where I can share my personal take on things and also learn from others within. Without further ado, let's get started!

Picture of my friends and my then 14-year-old self at a local women's rights protest.

Who am I, anyway?

I am an outspoken advocate for fairness and justice, even if it is in small gestures up until now. I am a cross cultured kid who spent the first eleven years in a developing country that experienced a revolution. I have been brought up in a multicultural, multi-religious, multilingual society that is working on advancement, and in some ways, that's not too different from the small town I now live in in Florida. I am half-American, half-Tunisian and depending on where my feet are geographically, I see areas that need social change and dialogue. On paper, however, I'm pretty much the typical high school student trying to build themselves for a college career and a promising future. Throughout my high school years, I have made sure to join as many clubs as possible to broaden my perspectives as a young individual, such as Junior Classical League (AKA Latin club), Students for Social Justice, Beta Club, Student Government Association, National Honors Society, Theatre Club, Pep Club, and more! I have served as Vice President and President of Students for Social Justice, President of Beta Club, and more. As you can see, I find it very important, through officer positions or not, to give to my community and take opportunities to learn more from others or the world itself. Outside of school, however, I am a community organizer for an organization called Rhizome, where we strive to recruit chapters at local high schools to engage in civic and social activism. The moral of the story is, I have spent so much time trying to figure out my voice, now it's time for me to express it and also speak up for others!

Why hop on this journey with me?

Although I am just a kid who wants to speak up for what's right, I really do just want to engage in conversation and learn more. I might not have that much experience or knowledge just yet, but Gen Z is the future. And I want to be a part of it.

You can follow this account on instagram @genz4socialjustice to stay up-to-date with my blogs and other posts. You can also email me at rmadisonbrahim@gmail.com for any questions or concerns.

Also, if you would like to join my team (so far, of 1), please don't hesitate to reach out to me! I would love to expand this project and give others the opportunity to express their visions or views!!

Peace.
